The Sarasota Film Festival runs April 5 through 14 with many, many films, documentaries, shorts, animations and full features. Along with the great films there are ways to get to meet and mingle with the talented, wonderful people involved with them. Friday is the Opening Night Film and Party at the Van Wezel. This year’s opener, Blackfish, is a documentary directed by Gabriela Cowperthwaite that examines the the consequences of whale captivity to provide entertainment.

After the film the Opening Night Party begins, with food by Mattison’s and drinks, of course. And yes, there will be dancing and mingling. It’s a beautiful party on the bay filled with excitement for the upcoming week.

April 4 through 7 is the Florida Wine and Balloon Festival!

This delightful four-day festival shows us each year that it can top the last with wines and food to try again and again. There will be wine tastings, dinners, music, balloon rides and kids’ activities. Fresh and fun food trucks will be on site at the balloon festival grounds. Events are held at the Van Wezel and in Lakewood Ranch.

Friday night at the Sarasota Municipal Auditorium is iConcept 2013, hosted by Mis Sadistic. This is an art show with fashion as the medium.  Benefiting Art Center Sarasota, iConcept invites artists to be a part of a conceptual fashion show using unusual materials to create garments fitting for the runway. Dinner and drinks will be provided by Fête Catering. To reserve a table or get a ticket, do it quickly by clicking the photo below.

Local favorite Passerine will be playing Saturday night at The Blue Rooster. Quickly becoming a new local favorite itself, The Blue Rooster has hosted many talented acts under its rustic roof. Great food and great music continue to prove a winning combo. Head out at 9 p.m. and don’t miss a minute of Passerine!

Fogartyville Community Media and Arts Center has hosted some really fun events and shows. Sunday will be another groovin’, lovin’ show with the One Love Festival, starting at 3 p.m. Go get your reggae groove on, fueled by Audrey’s Jamaican Cuisine!

Some more local traditions continue and new ones start this weekend. I’m always excited to see Sarasota grow with music, art, food and new local traditions.
