St. Armands Circle — electrified!

Last Sunday, Sarasota played host to the “largest and coolest” electric vehicle (EV) event the city has ever seen! Following the quietest automobile parade imaginable in downtown Sarasota, local EV owners, green technology enthusiasts and car lovers all convened on beautiful St. Armands Circle to take part in the EV expo, which featured new charging stations, live music and all sorts of eco-tech exhibits. Check out the video recap below.  – Videography by McFadden Creative.

Rain, rain, come my way

Rain, rain, come my way

Raindrop therapy massage — the very name throws you into images of nature. When I first heard the name I imagined cascades of water rushing down the side of a mountain … well, perhaps not quite that dramatic, but at least it conjured up a picture of round drops of moisture poised upon large tropical leaves, ready to drop to earth. Yet Charlotte Warn, LMT, tells us that raindrop therapy uses essential oils, not water. Oils are for plants what blood is for our body, and the essential oils extracted from [...]

This Weekend in Sarasota with Kirsten

I recommend you don’t film yourself when you’re tired … you end up partially headless.  Late to bed, late to rise, that is not how I can spend my weekend. Too much to do each day, wrapping up with a happy ending on Sunday with Full Moon Yoga on the beach. A day in the life of the homeless — Part One

A day in the life of the homeless — Part One

This is the first in a three-part series that looks at how Sarasota’s homeless spend their days, and what agencies and organizations are assisting our displaced population.  Looking beyond the recent City Commission request that resulted in 79 vagrancy-related arrests, let’s look at who the homeless are and what’s being done to assist them. In Sarasota, it’s primarily religious organizations and charitable citizens, not local government, that take the lead in assisting the homeless, although the city and the county both contribute substantial financial resources to the efforts. Resurrection House and The [...]

“Birth,” a play about mothers and childbirth, comes to Sarasota next week

“Birth,” a play about mothers and childbirth, comes to Sarasota next week

Birth. Many living in the Sarasota area have likely never seen it. They may wonder what it’s like, and whether or not the experience could change how they feel about, well, life –– or, more specifically, the roles that mothers play in the complex process that helps to safely usher it into our world. Answers to these questions will be available soon, though, as the play is scheduled for performances on Oct. 5 and 6 at 7 p.m. at New College of Florida’s Black Box Theater, and on Oct. 7 [...]

Great food, great service, and a stunning waterfront view!

Great food, great service, and a stunning waterfront view!

Ophelia’s on the Bay has been a fixture of Sarasota fine dining for over 20 years. Located on the south end of Siesta Key (three miles south of the Stickney Point Bridge), Ophelia’s low-profile presence easily blends into the natural surroundings. The physical layout of the restaurant creates a varietal ambiance. There is a small bar area with a few tables for cocktails and happy hour, two indoor dining areas for a more continental dining experience with a view of the water, and an outdoor dining space, both covered and [...]
